On three shiny floors of a former fish factory is CCP, a company best known in computer gaming for Eve Online, which has 300,000 participants all over the world - as many inhabitants as Iceland itself. However, restrictions on access to foreign currency for individuals and businesses and on foreign investment into Iceland are making life difficult. "To make new games, we need foreign investors," says Eyjolfur Gudmundsson, formerly an assistant professor at the University of Akureyri, who supervises Eve''s virtual economy. "The present currency restrictions are putting us in a straitjacket. We are in talks with the government, but if we can''t let capital in, we might be compelled to leave Iceland, even though this would be against our wishes."
At least CCP still generates income. For the ...
The holidays are always a special time in New Eden, filled with family, good food, slavery and the occasional state-sponsored execution. It's a wonderful time of the year, and our two newest Chronicles bring the warmth directly to the heart of any capsuleer.
In his newest Chronicle, "Chained to the Sky," CCP Gnauton liberates more information about life as a slave in the Amarr Empire. Something is afoot, and it may have far-reaching consequences for the certain members of the slave population in the Amarr Empire.
In CCP Abraxas' "Two Deaths," we witness the warm, passionate homecoming of New Eden's two most notorious traitors, Anvent Eturrer of the Gallente Federation and Chamberlain Karsoth of the Amarr Empire.
CCP has notified players of a starbase exploit which allowed some corporations and alliances to produce large amounts of high end T2 production materials. As a result of the exploit''''s discovery, over 70 accounts have been banned, and CCP says that "the effects on the markets have been considerable and far reaching."
On December 7th 2008, a date which will live in infamy, a petition from a concerned player alerted us to a serious problem with Starbase reactors. The petition had been filed five days earlier, a far longer waiting time than we can accept with our current queue status and we have now taken measures to fix that. We immediately started investigating the issue and found that there was indeed a problem and that it was being exploited to gain unfair advantages.

CCP has announced that they will be giving EVE players an early Christmas gift this year in the form of a performance enhancing patch.
Every year the players ask "CCP, what are you giving us for Christmas?"
This year we are giving you the gift of the Christmas Performance Patch which contains a massive boost to both large fleet and small gang engagements as well as much improved game play for every player in New Eden. Focusing on improvements to the Need for Speed initative, this very special patch streamlines performance to significantly increase frames per second (fps) and makes improvements to the patching process to allow for a smoother patching performance in general.
Players who participated in the testing on Singularity have noticed much improved playability and performance. In o ...
MMORPG.com EVE Online Correspondent Andrew Wallace writes this new article giving players some tips on either destroying a pod or surviving a pod attack in CCP's EVE Online.
Consider the humble pod. This unimposing egg may not look like much, but it contains your character, or their current clone at least, and its destruction can be terribly frustrating, even without a head full of expensive implants.
Losing your pod means a trip to the medical centre to buy a new one, but hopefully this little guide will make your visits a lot less frequent for you and a lot more common for your enemy. But first, one of the golden rules of EVE:
ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CLONE UPDATED.
It is with great pleasure that I announce that we are in the initial
stages of organizing another Alliance PVP Tournament. There have been a
few threads on the forums over the last few weeks while we have been
finalizing this, and I have been itching to reply to each one with this
news! As with previous tournaments, it's going to have excitement,
explosions, extravagant setups, exotic dancers and plenty more (well
maybe not exotic dancers; we will see how we go on that one!). This
blog is the "early warning blog" to let you all know that it's on so
you can plan accordingly.
Fancy a Date?
The tournament will consist of six days of competition - the same as
previous tournaments. One key difference is that it will take place
over three weekends and not two, which means that ther ...
To pick up where we left off, we saw how our fictional Eve
Corporation, Plasma Creations uses taxes to bring in the ISK to pay for
its overhead costs through the use of taxes. Like any corporation
though, you will want to bring in a steady stream of profit in order to
expand and develop into an even more prestigious corporation.
The first thing we need to do after we determine our standard
overhead costs is to find out our operating costs. Operating costs
differ from overhead costs because they are more pliable and fluctuate
more often, usually based off of the current market in EVE. In Plasma
Creations we have four divisions within the corporation:
Mining
Manufacturing
Logistics
Security
CCP has announced that they will be extending their newer and more robust buddy program for EVE Online until January 5th.
Our recently announced, revamped Buddy Program has proven to be so
popular that we have decided to extend the program through the
